TRANSIT OF MERCURY 2006 PHOTOS BY THE VSC

|
| Despite challenging brisk
winds here in the Riverview, FL area, I was able to capture a number of
acceptable photos of the 2006 Mercury Transit. My colleague Gary
Barabino also managed to take a few photos of the transit using his 76mm
f/6.3 Jason Comet Catcher using a 25mm Plossl ocular in conjunction with
his Gateway DC-T50 Digital Camera hand-held to the eyepiece. They
appear in green above. To capture my photos, I used my 90mm f/11
Refractor with a 40mm Plossl together with my newly construction
Universal Camera
Adapter to hold the camera (Olympus SP-500UZ Digital Camera [f/3.3,
1/600 sec, ISO 100]) to the eyepiece. To reduce the Sun's fearsome rays,
I used a Baader AstroSolar visual solar filter with a 2.750" aperture in
a home-made cardboard cell. For an enlarged
view, please click on each image above. We hope you all had the
grand and rare opportunity of witnessing this awesome astronomical event. And if you
took some photos, please share them with us by sending them to our email
