Yes, it was a big jump
from where we were before. Nevertheless, you did not miss much, plus
I mentioned what I did prior to priming and painting on the previous
slide. In the above photo, we see that the dovetail bar has been
primed and painted. I did not have to prime the piece, but I did it
anyway using a standard gray primer. Following this step, I painted
the dovetail plate with RustoleumŽ Hammered-Finish black spray
paint. To enable me to paint the front and the back of the dovetail
plate, I installed two bolts into the threaded holes. The
simple process goes like this: First, with the bolts screwed in
place atop the dovetail plate I painted that side and allow it to
dry thoroughly (24 hours). Next, I flipped the dovetail plate over
using the bolts as stilts to prevent the curing surface from
touching anything other than one edge, then painted the other side.
I know that I could have done it an easier way, of which several
other ways I can
think of, but I wanted the plate to lie horizontal
versus hanging vertically during the curing process. NOTE: The
smaller pieces at the upper left of the picture are face plates for
the North Star field tripod, which will be covered later. |
