Jaegers 6" f/10 "GJD" OTA Construction - The Main Tube (card stock used to form cut edge)

Main tube ready to be cut to proper size - 1. (Click to see an enlarged image.)

With the selection of the main tube made. It is now time to cut it to proper length. The length was determined based on the specifications from the placement of the mounted objective cell, and the focuser parameters (please refer to the ray trace specifications on the Components and Ray Trace Design Diagram page).

As you can see here in the photo, I have wrapped a sheet of 8.5" wide card stock (that has an accurate straight edge) around the circumference of the main tube at the cut point. This process assures me that the line I will slowly etch around the tube will be true and perpendicular to the main tube's length. A sweet trick for near perfect right-angle cuts to tubular substrates. This process has worked for me on numerous ocassions.
