Now that all of the main leg components have been cut to length and the edges rounded over, it is time to address the height adjustment setup of the tripod. This has to be done prior to varnishing and assembly of the legs. The photo above shows the final arrangement of the leg components for one of the three legs. As you can see, a 45-degree bevel has been cut at the bottom inside end of one of the outside main leg supports. This will be done for all three legs. The bevel will accommodate the pivot joint of a stainless steel strap hinge.

NOTE - The height adjustment setup for the NS II is comprised of a collection of hardware components that when installed will create a unique yet easy and stable means of adjusting the height of the North Star II field tripod. The construction is simple, and the parts needed are cheap and easily acquired, as you will see going forward.
