North Star II Field Tripod Construction - Leg Height Adjustment Setup 2

With the beveled "outside main leg support" sat atop the "adjustable center leg", a couple of intersecting lines show the location to place the T-Nut... (Click for enlarged view)

Before going any further, I will explain the basic workings of the height adjustment mechanism. As mentioned in the last slide, the 45-degree bevel cut to the inside of one of the "outside main leg supports" will accommodate the pivot joint of a stainless steel strap hinge. This strap hinge (as seen to the right-center in the above photo) will act as a locking mechanism that will press against the "adjustable center leg" by means of a knurled knob. But before I can install the strap hinge, I will need to install a T-Nut for the threaded knurled knob.

In the image above, you will note that I drew a line above the bevel with a short line denoting where I will be drilling a 1/2" hole to receive a 3/8" T-Nut. But a recess has to be created first.
