RA and DEC Axis's Braking Systems - Partially Completed DEC Axis Brake

Click for an Enlarged View

Nearly ready to receive the Teflon Pad Pivoting Arms used for the application of  tension and pressure on both sides of each of the fork tine's declination shafts, the Declination Axis Braking System is a crude yet effecting means of slewing the cradle and telescope unit. The off center holes are to allow passage of the Declination shafts. The plywood feet on the unit allows for attachment to the tips of the two fork tines. The plywood square plate with the off center hole in the foreground will be used to sandwich and support the tension adjustable teak and Teflon pivoting pads between it and the top section.
