Sonotube - Sanded Exterior Close-up - Spiral Ridges Sanded Smooth
Sonotube-Sanded Exterior Closeup-Spiral Rigdes Sanded Smooth
Please note that the soft reflected glow from the sanded Sonotube does not display the crisp edges of the spiral-wound overlapping embossment. This is because the overlapping line of the spiral-wound paper (raised spiral line seen on many completed home-built Sonotube Newtonian OTA's) has been ground down smooth to the level of the rest of the tube using my random orbital sander loaded with an 80-grit sandpaper disk wheel. Only the outer edge of the sandpaper disk was carefully used to remove the spiral overlap embossment. This created a smooth surface that when coated with epoxy, primer, and paint will be much more uniform in texture and appearance.
