One of the best products
ATM's have at there disposal to aid in nullifying internal
reflections in the telescopic instruments is ProtoStar flocking
material. It is a substrate with a velvet surface texture and has an
adhesive back (also comes without the adhesive backing). For the
VSC/ SAO Carton 100mm f/13 "Mary Dawson" refractor, I used the
adhesive backed version and attached it to a sheet of 15 Mil Mylar
sheet. It was a bit tricky to do, but I got it done by laying the
ProtoStar material with is adhesive side up. I then removed the
backing from the ProtoStar exposing the adhesive surface. Next, I
made certain that the material was laying as flat possible. The
Mylar was then carefully lowered at the center of the ProtoStar and
gradually continued lowering the Mylar outward from the center to
the outer edges of the flocking material. Once applied, I began
smoothing out the Mylar to remove air to make good contact with the
flocking material. Afterwards, I let the piece cure for a few days
before trimming it to fit into the main tube with the baffle rack. |
