Now that the painted main tube and dew shield have both cured and out gassed sufficiently, it was time to start assembly of the VSC/ SAO Carton 100mm f/13 "Mary Dawson" refractor OTA. As you may recall, the Crayford focuser adapter was installed prior to the main tube's finishing process. So outside of the installation of the flocking, we can say that it was the first component to be installed in the assembly process. But the next components to be installed was the front/ rear cell assembly, which also incorporated the Carton 100mm f/13 objective, as seen in the image above. The rear portion of the cell was attached to the main tube using three grub screws and sat into small divots. Snugly screwed into place the grubs held the rear objective cell firmly and securely to the main tube. The front cell containing the Fraunhofer doublet was then attached to the rear cell piece. Collimation will occur later once the focuser is install and the telescope is ready for testing prior to First Light.
