Initially, I was going to
use the above pictured neoprene appliance feet for the toes on the
legs of the North Star II field tripod. But then I found a better
use for them! Instead of being the feet, they can be the covering
for the feet.
As many of you already know, the best refractor tripods use metallic
points at the end of tripod legs to aid in stability. So, I decided
to do something similar to the North Star II. In this case, I
decided to use 5" long 1/2" carriage bolts partially inserted and
glued with epoxy into the bottoms of the "adjustable center legs".
Therefore, instead of the above shown feet being used a actual feet,
I will use them to cover the exposed shafts of the carriage bolts as
you will see later. I think everyone will like the concept!
