| To
get the Sonotube® to this point really took a lot of effort. After the interior
plastic liner was stripped from the tube, several coats of gray primer
was spray-applied in two coats (second coat was applied after about 30
minutes.) Once the primer fully dried for a couple of days, it caused
the fibers of the tube interior to stand up forming a fuzzy surface.
Using a clothing shaver used to remove the burs, frizz and fuzz from fabrics, I
shaved off the nap of fibers as much as I could. This left a much
smoother finished, but the surface was still rough enough to help in
obscuring indirect stray light that would enter the tube during
observing sessions. A third coat of primer was administered for good
measure before the Krylon Ultra Flat Black spray paint was applied. |
