Fork Mount Base Construction - Accessory Compartment Door  (Unfinished)

Embellished here with the logo of the Vega Sky Center and oak handle, we have  the unfinished Accessory Compartment Door. The door is made from 3/4" birch plywood and is approximately 13.5" L x 13.5" W. A notch was cut at the back edge of the door to accommodate the attachment of a 12" continuous piano hinge. The Accessory Compartment is a great addition to the telescope as we will need to store an assortment of astronomical equipment such eyepieces, filters, cameras, atlases, drive corrector, etc. The door will be sanded and finished with satin spar vanish prior to installation.

The construction of the Fork Mount Base was the final section of the mount to be built. Now that it is complete, we are ready to start the finishing process for all of the Fork Mount components. Each section will be sanded using 220 grit sandpaper, tack clothed, and sealed with clear satin spar varnish (about three coats).
