When I
purchased the mounted 127mm f/9.4 objective from SurpluShed, the
edges of the elements were not blackened.
This is
not a requirement,
but I wanted to do all I can to pull out every bit of contrast I
could get from this instrument. So I did the edge blackening myself
using a SharpieŽ marker. If you plan on doing the same,
BE VERY CAREFUL
not to get the marker on the faces of any of the lenses. Not a major
issue, since it can be removed with alcohol. But who wants to do
that! Also work in a very safe place and use a soft terry cloth
towel, or other none scratching material to support your lens
elements.
