To
appreciate the workmanship put into the making of these baffles, I
thought I would take a close-up image of the back of one them. As
you can see, there is a beveled edge around the center hole. This is
called a knife-edge and its purpose is understood by most ATM. But,
for those who are interested, they basically allow light from the
objective to pass straight through the baffles with little to no
chance of deflection. In conjunction with the extraneous light
blocking properties of the baffles, the end result is better
contrast.
